Anyone try to build up your website just using nofollow contextual backlinks, it still can ranking that keyword to google first page?
About nofollow backlinks ranking keyword

I used to experiment with this in the past. Unless Google has done something special to your website regarding your nofollow links, meaning they're ignoring the nofollow tags because you've applied them inappropriately, then nofollow links don't pass page rank. They're not supposed to be crawled either but again, Google will crawl some of them through some websites.
Page Rank is going to be the main factor in the ranking. There are other variables related to links that still exist in relation to nofollow links, such as relevance, anchor text, position on page, etc. But none of those really get "activated" and give you a rankings push until page rank juice is flowing.
I haven't done this in a long time (over a decade) but you could sculpt a very nice anchor text profile with cheap and free nofollow links where the page rank didn't matter. Google would index these in the link graph even if they didn't crawl through them, because they had already indexed your page (the destination page).
Then you could build or pay for a single, high power guest post or link insertion on a killer domain and relevant article with a safe anchor text. Then and only then would your page explode in rankings. The difference was all of the "non-page-rank" variables were there and waiting to be activated. Then you activated them by sending in some page rank from a trusted site. And because they were all nofollow you could over-optimize their anchor text and not get in trouble.

As many SEOers talking about dofollow backlinks to rank the website, but they never mentioned those backlinks can be indexed or not. When you use site:url to inspect, then you will find that it cannot be crawl by any search engine even waiting for a decade
