Let's get down to business. What is this quantum computing stuff? In current states of computing a bit is either 1 or 0. Think of a coin, when you see it lying flat it's either heads or tails. In Quantum computing instead of bits they have qubit. The QuBit is the equivalent of the coin continuously spinning until you decided to stop it then it shows 1 or 0.
Basically in regular computer bits there is no coin flip - the coin is either head (1) or tails (0), with Quantum the god-damn coin is spinning until we stop it. So it's both 1 and 0 until we need it to stop.
What does that mean for you? The calculations that can be done at once are beyond anything we are capable of understanding.
Now here is the part where you're dead... One current best security algorithms we are running around with is RSA-4096. To crack this it would take 10,000 to 20,000 logical qubits...
Microsoft claims their chip currently has 8. But 8 turns into 16 and then 64 and then 256 within a year without a problem, especially with Microsoft's resources.
But here is the problem - this single Majorana 1 Quantum chip can hold up to 1 million qubits...
Listen to her explanation (the bottom 2 minute video):
When we thought quantum computers were going to be the warehouse room sized. We were wrong again. I remember in the 1950s we thought computers in the future could weight 10 tons. We were wrong then too, we have some of the most powerful computers in our pockets known to man, weighting less than 0.5 LBs.
So Microsoft has a SINGLE chip that can hold a million qubits onto its surface. They are not messing around, and that also means, NSA and the gang probably have something more powerful already - maybe.
So how long do you think they are going to stay at 8 quBit capacity when they got room for 1 million qubits? 1 year, 5 years, 10? I don't think so. And you know the Chinese and our Rus comrades are already looking in what Microsoft is claiming - that's the thing about peer review stuff, you have to show your work - otherwise no one believes you.
So if it takes 20,000 qubits to start cracking RSA-4096 and some of our best KNOWN encryption algorithms, and they got 1 million capacity. ChatGPT is claiming RSA-4096 is still safe for 10-20 years. ChatGPT is retarded. Maybe you got 2-5 years - MAYBE. Because copycats are going to be on Microsoft's ass to figure out how they did it and copy it.
Looking further we see that Governments and tech companies are shifting towards a "post-quantum cryptography (PQC)" realm.
Why is this important - for the masses of consumers a simple software update will fix this. But for people in the trenches that have to implement this stuff - this is "World War 4-ever". You're going to be battling against god-particles and quantum realm calculations from unknown adversaries. The current CyberWar we are fighting and losing now is going to be nothing when these chips start getting used.
All that smart-home crap that you guys installed in your homes that you never update the software for or patched are going to make your homes a living hell. I remember one story where a girl broke up with her boyfriend, and every night she would wake up to the heat being set to 80 or 90 degrees - sweltering heat, or 60 degrees and freezing. For 4 months she couldn't figure it out. Turns out her ex-boyfriend has the APP to her Nest and it's A/C installed on his phone and was messing with her for 4 months.
All that smart-home stuff is vulnerable NOW. And these idiots put these smart devices in their homes and don't know the first thing about security.
This is really scary stuff if you understand where we are heading. That's why my home has no smart devices, no smart fridge, a stupid thermostat, and nothing is connected to the internet. I even disable the wifi network, you have to be hardwired to connect to my internet. In fact I don't even have internet. I astral-project to make updates here.
The real problem is the transition from regular to quantum computing - there will be stuff that simply doesn't make it to the quantum world that will remain vulnerable - this your smart microwave. Really when was the last time you guys did a software patch to your smart devices in your home?
And let's say you do weekly software updates. What about your parents? Extended family, neighbors across the street? And you are surrounded by their lack of security around you. They're making you vulnerable. When these smart cars can turn on and off themselves and drive away or right through your living room you'll understand we are in trouble. Well you are.
And now they are going to be using these chips to power and develop A.I. - real A.I., not LLM.
Look at the state of A.I., ChatGPT got here, blew the world away, then within MONTHS there were copycats, clones, and even some stating that they did it better than ChatGPT. The whole world changed to A.I. almost overnight. Now even I'm running 3 different LLM softwares on my computer. The average Joe is using A.I to solve problems too.
So yes, once this Microsoft Chip gets seen by people and it's explained how it works, there will be copycat people from nations with very powerful resources doing their own version.
"Microsoft suggests that practical quantum computing applications are "years, not decades" away."
Well there you have it. I believe it'll be months, not years.
This new Quantum chip is the equivalent of Alexander Graham Bell creating the telephone. The significance of this moment should not be understated.
Welcome to a Brave New Quantum World - where you're both alive and already dead.
