More big brand love from the almighty algorithm.

That's interesting. There's no way that that won't become an ad. Google better watch it before they cannibalize their entire SERP. You can't improve forever with concrete parameters around you. At this pace we stand to see something fundamentally shifting in the way the SERP pages are structured (in order to show more ads while still showing enough organic).

Organic results are already rubbish because of this "big brand love", and now this... Google serps are slowly becoming like an auction listing where you have to go through million pages to reach regular content (not promoted, seoed etc). In my view (from customer perspective) it will give Google just more control over entire SERPs landscape - again, and will make results just less "organic" (if that's even still possible...).

From marketer's perspective, just another puzzle to figure out. But even if regular small business will get on this for free one day, if it's going to stay and for free, then it doesn't change much IMO because all the rules are staying in place - be like a BIG brand etc.

The landing page says the "experimental" feature is "only available to the 2016 US presidential candidates" (Andrew Jewelers for president!), but those of us not running for office can join a waitlist as Google plans to "make it available to other prominent figures and organizations."

I was OK with anything they do as long as they kept organic and paid results separate. Once they started influencing organic directly and messing up with ads here and there I don't like it at all. I can smell a lot of greed for money/power here, not much for benefit of end user.
