Looking for a new chair. I have the Aeron which is not comfortable at all for me. I’ve tried various sizes and configurations, as well as different Herman Miller chairs but they all bother my lower back (herniated a disk years ago).

Want something that can roll so I can roam like a free bird.

What office, or executive chair, brand do you recommend I check out?

I've got the Herman Miller Embody, and early on I was sitting in it slid waaay down with my feet on the desk (instead of tilting it back, it was locked in the top position) and broke one of the lumbar supports. And because I put all the bells and whistles on it, I've continued to use it for over 10 years now.

But I've been looking at others. Steelcase seems to be great. I have a shoddy one my brother got from besides a dumpster at his job where there's all kinds of different offices. It has zero fancy stuff. Just solid and stiff, which feels great to sit in.

That's what I realized and I think all the manufacturers came to realize. The netted, breathable "cloud" fabric works for your back but as the seat it gets stretched and sags ultimately. I have a pillow in my seat now so the front of the base doesn't cut circulation on my legs. I'm noticing they're all going with solid bases now.

One thing I did do (just to talk about it) is swap my casters out for "sliders" since I"m on carpet. My goal was to plant the chair in one spot and only swivel in and out of it. It worked and I'm not destroying the rug I put under my desk (on top of carpet, which is why a chair mat wouldn't work).

I'm interested in suggestions too. I'm definitely thinking of spending $500 instead of $2,000 on chairs from here out so I feel less obligated to hold on to them longer and longer.

What do you all think about headrests on chairs? I'm to the point where I feel like I could go without arm rests. I'd really like a giant fat seat with no arms where I could even sit Indian style on it, though that'd probably be a novelty I'd get over real quick.

Awesome, thank you. Will check out Steelcase.

For moi, I like the look of stationary chairs. But when I tried them found myself constantly wanting to adjust the position (roll a bit) but couldn't, obviously. Felt stuck. For some reason I like stationary chairs in a public place like a library or coffee shop, but at home prefer to roll a bit. Understand that others like them stationary though.

Regarding circulation cut off in legs, yeah, definitely. That's another issue with my Aeron. The way it forces me into an "ergonomic" position it ends up pushing into the bottom of my legs and cutting circulation.

Love arms on my chairs, as I like to rest my elbow on it while in the pondering man position thinking through things and coming up with solutions.

At home when working, I don't like headrests as it puts me in relax mode when I lay my head against it. Fantastic though when it's relax time in something like a lazyboy or massage chair. Ahhhh so nice and twice as thrice.
