Continued from Google Algorithm Updates - 2024 Ongoing Discussion

March 2025 Core Update Has Been Announced - The first update of 2025:
  • “Today we released the March 2025 core update to Google Search. This is a regular update designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites. We also continue our work to surface more content from creators through a series of improvements throughout this year. Some have already happened; additional ones will come later.”

Take note of the bolded words! If Google is true to their words, then content websites may start to flourish again.

Fingers crossed! I have a good feeling about this one.

I saw an interesting post on X about Google's modern algorithm.

The user compared it to the YouTube / TikTok / X algorithm, in that it prioritizes engagement and moves items higher in the feed if they are more engaging. Think "average watch time" except in Google form.

This aligns with what was in that leaked algo doc.

Makes sense to me, not sure if it means anything for a content site. I think SEO is still viable for sites that sell a product or service rather than just providing information.

Of course take this with a grain of salt.

Some times has passed since all the updates, so how is traffic holding up for your projects?

I'm hearing more and more people talk about using AI such as Perplexity, so how is it looking from your end, how long until the well dries up?

March 2025 Core Update COMPLETE

14 Days after the rollout on March 13th, around noon Eastern, Google's March 2025 Core Update has finished rolling out as of 8:30.

I think the thing to talk about is what they mean by the word "creators". I'd venture a guess, based on internal language I've read them using, is that that "creators" are different than "publishers". Publishers are apparently viewed as a necessary evil to be minimized, while Creators are probably personal brands with an established presence in text, social media, and video, as well as a branded site with products and services available. Boosting them would go along with the idea that personal brands are going to be more valued as AI spreads out further.
