STDDIOT - Stuff That Doesn't Deserve Its Own Thread

NGL, when someone's argument for doing or not doing something in their business is "look at FAANG, Microsoft, Tesla, etc" it really grinds my gears.

Just got banned from the largest subreddit in my niche for posting a link to the homepage of Google Trends. No wonder I avoided the platform for so long- the mods are a bunch of neckbeards who have made it their goal in life to moderate subreddits stricter than the gestapo. FFS.

Many aren't there for moderation and for encouraging good discussion and discouraging bad. They're there for the power it gives them, and when that's the case, it always corrupts, especially when it's something like Reddit where "who cares if I banned one guy, there's 200,000 more in this sub and that guy has multiple accounts anyways".

The other side of the coin is when the mods don't do their jobs. Any sub-reddit that isn't sufficiently moderated quickly devolves to the common rock bottom denominator, and anyone capable of producing quality discussions finds greener pastures.

There was a scandal some time ago on Reddit where a handful of mods were exposed as practically running all the most busy subs.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes. There's great power to be able to influence what shows up on the front page of Reddit. Enough that someone dedicated enough could set up a whole boiler room to do nothing but infiltrate subs and gain mod status.

RIP Glen Jellybean, Clark Middleton:

We're near the end now folks, only the metaverse will matter afterwards.

I don't know about you, but I smell freedom in the air. These covid communists can't keep it up for much longer.

I was sitting here drinking my San Mig beer and like when you listen to music and you feel 16 again, I drink my beer, and I am transported to Manila and Bangkok and Hong Kong and I can feel that excitement of stepping out into the damp, dark tropical night, lit up by neon lights.

The second I can leave for Asia without having to quarantine for weeks, I am gone, booking a ticket, going on a months long rediscovery of travel and just having fun.

Never again this lockdown covid! Making plans, life is too short.

I just bought the remastered Mass Effect Legendary collection.

Looking forward to seeing what the fuss is about.

Am I missing something here - is Matthew Woodward really the last SEO doing experiments? At least publishing them for free. Where do you guys go for your latest SEO news and tactics?

I believe Matt Diggity does experiments- maybe Glen from Detailed (ViperChill) as well? Though I don't believe Glen has been very active lately...

I only follow Matt Diggity and he does give away valuable information once in a while.

His last interview on the Youtube channel was actually with some turkish SEO who does experiments.

Looking to broaden my horizon and thinking of starting in Lebanon (MO). Anyone willing to express his or her opinion?

Web ops at my place of employment requires notice when we crawl with screaming frog, even at the default max 5 threads per second. This was literally blamed for slow servers once.

Wow, god forbid they get a surge in traffic - the only notice they'll get is their screaming uptime monitors.

I hate Flippa.

Be forewarned you should read this bottom to top. I'm J.

Flippa really can be the Fiverr of website selling services sometimes, lol.
Facts.

Unfortunately, it's averaging less than $300/mo so the better options are...who knows. Deleted Facebook a while ago so no groups there, and the site is a hair more complex than articles & Azon.

https://appsumo.com/products/socialbee/

Social Bee (social media scheduler/poster) is doing a 1-year free promo on AppSumo. I've used the tool for a couple of years now . . . it's always worked well for me. I know the big timers here don't need it, but for those still in the money-conscious stage, it could be useful.

Glen Allsop seems to be mostly updating existing content on detailed/gaps, I like SEOUnmasked when they upload, and I occasionally go back to Income School because they're so damn transparent with their wins/losses, and when I'm out and about, I enjoy listening to Mark and Gael's Authority Hacker podcast because they upload regularly and discuss current events.

But I do not know of any golden-age woodward/viperchill/kaiserthesage/cloudliving-esque blogs that are active. Makes me wonder, is this a sign Google is winning or is everything happening now exclusively in Slack channels/Discord communities?

With every low, there is a high. Got contacted by a serious buyer, quick transaction & transfer, money hit the account today.

https://alsoasked.com/

Pretty nice google People Also Ask scraper. Use this while it's still working/free!

I LOVED alsoasked.com for their .csv export functionality, was pretty much a fully-fleshed out article outline that only required a bit of polishing before handing off to writers. I've noticed they seem to have been "under maintenance" for quite some time now..

Anyone know of a people also asked scraper tool that has an export function? Kind of a shot in the dark but alsoasked.com exports saved me so much time..

In my part of the world, there just doesn't seem to be much secret sauce, it's all a question of execution and scale.

I'm was in a ton of discords, slacks, and lurking in Facebook groups. The short answer is they aren't saying anything new or that hasn't been published within the Digital Strategy Crash Course. AND the problem is the conversations can go fast and you have to be actively watching stuff in chatrooms otherwise you'll miss stuff. But IMO everyone is just trying to sell a course or some subscription to access or ancient data or techniques that ends up not having meat on the bone data.

The reality is the blackhats and greyhats of SEO have gone silent because it's better to shut the fuck up and make money, versus publish a technique which Google will close the loop for cause all the newbies are now doing it. Blackhat SEO is still alive and well, but the bloggers that are in the trenches simply stopped publishing and keep their secrets to themselves since they learned their lesson from the past about getting burnt.

Now we got scenarios like this great thought-provoking being at the top of the SEO news hour: Are Hyphens in Domain Names OK for Google?

I know the darker SEOs are laughing at this, cause I'm laughing too...
