Coronavirus Hysteria

The truth is we are overpopulated, namely the third world.

The solution to that is not to kill us all, but to move to Mars and colonize the stars. In other words, I agree with the Musk solution, not the Gates solution.

Colonizing the stars is such a cool thing to think about. It definitely fits with the innate human curiosity and desire to explore.

The question is will space tech advance fast enough to get us there before we blow ourselves up down here

If instead of spending billions and billions on useless wars, welfare and Onlyfans, and we spent that money and energy on getting to Mars?

We could probably have the first commercially viable base there before 2050.

I had assumed this was over...

It's endemic, so it will never technically never be "over". Gain of function and bioweapons research continues unabated. Anyone can modify these viruses to increase/decrease virality/mortality rates. It's very likely Omicron itself was an engineered response to build global immunity and supplant the more lethal Delta variant from dominance given it came out of absolutely nowhere.

There are people still taking these vaccines and masking daily. And then the extreme ones are trying to force everyone else to mask up again. That ain't happening.
It better fkn not. With our new government here in the UK all kinds of depressing dystopian and authoritarian madness is unfortunately possible again.

I don't know. Perhaps the money would be better spent here on Earth to solve the problems that we can realistically address. One of these is stopping China, the world's single biggest polluter, from burning coal for cheap energy.

I think there's a misconception about third-world countries being major polluters. While it's true that they might struggle with waste management, their carbon footprint is nowhere near that of industrialized countries. In fact, third-world countries are often quite efficient as they rely heavily on local products.

It's not really a misconception, but it all depends on if you buy the idea that co2 is the only thing worth focusing on.

If even you consider the role of microplastics (now found in your testicles), then India is easily the single biggest problem in the world.

Co2 might be an issue, I'm not sure yet, because it seems likely there are innate long term methods of balancing in the climate, but polluting our common waterways with chemical sludge, feces and plastics is definitely not good.

carbon footprint

This is what I mean I don't think people understand what's really going on.

CO2, the crap that these people go on and on about with climate change, makes up 0.04% of the Earth's atmosphere.

According to Daily Co2 the current levels are 4.71 ppm for July 11 2024.

That's 4.71 PARTS PER MILLION. That's like one person having $4.71 and everyone having the other $999,995.29. Come on...

CO2 isn't even 1%. It's 4/100 of 1% of the air.

So what happened is once people realized that Carbon is so little of the air they started claiming it's nitrogen that is the problem. Convenient.

More sources: Carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere

But here people are still crying about carbon footprint...

Here is an effect of "global warming":

You guys should do the research on the lies that they've been tell you.

You say current CO2 levels are 4.71 ppm? That has to be a typo because the actual level is closer to 417 ppm. So, the analogy of having only $4.71 is also wrong. The correct amount would be $417. Not that it really matters to me.

And no, scientists didn’t suddenly start blaming nitrogen. Maybe you mixed up nitrogen (N2) and nitrous oxide (N2O). They're not the same thing. Nitrogen isn’t a greenhouse gas. The NASA article 'The Causes of Climate Change' doesn't mention nitrogen at all. It lists carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, chlorofluorocarbons, and water vapor as the key greenhouse gases. So, that claim about nitrogen? I don't know where you got that from.

I’d like to share a personal anecdote. I've spent time in both Northern Europe and East Asia. It’s clear to me, and to anyone who has been to these places, that humans aren't meant to breathe the polluted air found in many parts of China. You can feel it in your eyes and throat.

Starting late August, Beijing enjoyed a rare string of continuously clear days as authorities took drastic action to ensure an azure backdrop for the largest parade it’s ever held – a showcase marking the 70th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II.

Hundreds of factories were shut during this time, while half of Beijing’s five million registered cars were banned from the streets.

It worked. On the morning of the parade, the air quality index (AQI) – an international standard for measuring the severity of air pollution – dipped to a pristine 17 out of 500, signifying very healthy air.

Excited Beijingers coined the unusually blue skies “parade blue. But now the cars are back and the city is back to “Beijing gray.” Friday’s AQI shot up past 160 in parts of the city, rated “unhealthy”.

According to a guide by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, at this level of pollution “Everyone may begin to experience some adverse health effects, and members of the sensitive groups may experience more serious effects.”

It's true that CO2 isn't to blame for particle pollution. But burning fossil fuels, which increases CO2, creates particles that form smog. This pollutes the environment in a way that you can really see with your own eyes. It traps heat, blocks sunlight, is associated with increased cancer risk, and contributes to acid rain which contaminates water.

Here's a website where people can check air quality around the world in real time. You can even get your own air quality monitor and share your data with their program:
