Introductions Thread

You might be a wantrepreneur, which isn't bad, we all start that way, but you're not an imposter. You're in the role and doing it. It's the real thing. We all have stuff to learn still and you may be earlier in the learning curve but you're doing it right. You're in the trenches and you're seeking solutions to whatever real life challenge arises directly in front of you, instead of wasting time on theoretics.

Having only Sundays is rough, but everything you're doing in your current position is directly applicable to running your own projects, so zero time is being wasted. I would say to make sure you're paying attention to what's working on not in your day job position so you can outsource those things on Sundays. If you know what works, and you have cash flow, you can pay to have those things done to play catch up on the time you don't have.

Good luck and welcome aboard. I hope you stick around with us.

Thank you for the inspirational words Ryuzaki. I suppose the intrusive thoughts originate from being granted the opportunity but I’m determine to make this work. There’s no going back.

My friend opened my eyes to the power of outsourcing and luckily we have the resources to do so….I just need to get better at seeing through the smoke (ie what can and can’t be outsourced) and my team building skills.

It’s a lot to take in at once, but I’ll be here for the long run.

I wish you the best on your journey! Affiliate marketing is a great segue into internet marketing and if done right, you can surely "make it". What barriers are you facing and of course, have you checked out the Digital Strategy Crash Course?

-----

Hey @dwain , I've been knee deep in SEO for a mere 6 months now so I'd love to hear some lesser known SEO tactics or aspects that a newbie like myself might want to consider?

Here's one that pretty much blew my mind when I found it in the crash course.... NERD'ing content, TF-IDF, and LSI / LSA are almost as important as KW research in my humble opinion.

I hadn't even noticed the course.
Will be sure to take a look at it and go
through it step by step.

I think the biggest challenge is getting started.

Hi BUSO! Super glad to stumble upon your nice forum, looking forward to learning some new stuff and bounce ideas.

So let me shortly introduce myself. I'm closer to 40 than 30 and my official career position for the last 10 years is SEO Specialist. I have been working in agencies, freelance, and in big companies. I was part of a big team, I was managing up to 10 copywriters, devs or graphic designers or just working as one-man-band. I worked on startup blogs from scratch, and I worked on websites with 20M+ monthly visits.

During that time I had some cool ideas for side jobs (when you are doing a lot of topic/kw research you tend to find some gems now and then), but my full-time job was just too cozy to seriously push and build a source of stable side income. This summer I decided it really is a good time to get serious about this and at the moment I'm spending all my free time developing 1 smaller affiliate website (sports/hobby niche) and 1 bigger authority style site (travel niche). I am currently writing content, technical part (domain, hosting, theme etc) is ready. KW and competition research is done, let's see how Google will like me.

Anyway, I really don't expect any serious results until late next summer, but we will see, can I build something for myself, not only for the clients.

And yes, if you have any specific questions regarding SEO let me know, I might know a thing or two about it

I didn't know what I was looking for until I found Builder Society. I came by way of Reddit in a sub that has potential but isn't quite what I was looking for, so I am excited by what I have seen here so far!

A little about me...

I quit my corporate job 5 years ago to start my own business, my now husband quit his job about 3 months later to jump on board. Three and a half years ago we left Australia and started travelling the world, and now we are hanging out in France for a while living in an 800-year-old chateau!

Our businesses have provided for us for the past 5 years, but each one hasn't really lived up to its potential because of procrastination or getting distracted by other 'shiny objects'. We also tend to get bogged down in stuff that should take a day to implement and ends up taking a month. Case in point, one of our websites sells documents individually, and we decided to move to a subscription-based model. It should have taken a week or two to change over, but no it's been about 2 months now. Some issues have been actual website issues, some have been changing our minds about things and redoing work, some have been creatives taking longer than they should, etc etc. But argh!

Anyway, I have new plans for 3 particular websites and have talked my husband into getting a VA in the next month to do all the work that anyone can do, and save the technical/qualified stuff for us.

My end goal is to sell at least 2 of the websites in 2-3 years, and then create new niche based blogs/websites to flip every year or so for income. The main website I want to sell has the most earning potential, but it's legal based, so a lot of legislation etc to keep up with and it freaks me out!

I'm looking forward to learning from here, and finally getting our websites to where they should be, and where they deserve to be.

Thanks for having me!

Hey Krycheck,

I have a similar story to you and I also worked in SEO, but it's 10 years back now.

I also work in the sports/hobby niche, so we might have things in common to discuss.

Thanks.

Glad to help. The crash course is hands down the best free info I’ve found online. Try to remember that knowledge is only powerful if it’s applied and prioritize execution efficiency so you’re not stuck in an analysis paralysis loop.

Let us know how it goes!

Congrats on making the jump. I’ve read quite a bit here about others article briefs but I’ll always be curious how others prioritize kw research and how they deliver it to their writers.

I’ve personally seen fair results from giving the article angle based on topic/SERPS, assigning a primary kw to be used 5x*(preferred in title/h2’s), secondary kw’s to be used 1x each (preferred in h2’s), and supplemental minor kw’s to use where applicable. Most of the time I’ll do the headers myself but this process seems front loaded or time intensive when I consider that NERD/ LSI are nearly important in my humble opinion.

To streamline the briefs, we’re testing out a new method that involves assigning angles, primary kw research only, and having editors NERD the content in hopes the writer/ editors create the best content possible. Results TBD.

With that being said, what have you found to be time and cost effective when it comes to delivering kw research / article briefs to writers?

Welcome, @Loot. Glad you came out of the shadows for the time being. What kind of stuff are you working on these days? Do you have a "biggest win" and "biggest failure" story for us? I'm sure a lot has happened since the AOL days.

These days im mostly working offline in the automotive space (sales side)

When it comes to online ventures I stick to building quick flips that I will either auction off or find a broker for. I would describe them as niche content blogs centered around tv shows, movies, new releases etc. We branched out to cover easy to rank for trending tik tok terms and all the social media bs. Usually can rank them in a month or two. They usually sell from anywhere to 5-15k a piece.

I have a ton of other half finished sites and projects pending my next Adderall refill lol

My biggest win I would also describe as my biggest failure, when I was younger I built a 7 figure greyhat business, sold it, and blew the money on cocaine, women, boats, and trucks like a dumbass. Was fun, didnt die, & wouldnt change a thing.

What sort of content would this be? "10 facts about "x" Tik Tok creator" or image/video galleries related to terms specific to the platform (memes, etc).

Why offline? Better money to be made? More fun? Can you use IM to boost your offline sales?

I CRUSH in sales (both in tech and automotive) and enjoy dealing with people face to face vs being stuck at a desk.

Thats more clickbaity and suitable for sharing on social media. We focus giving answers to longtail questions people might have. & paginate whenever possible

Welcome aboard, @mysecretid , sounds like you've found plenty of success. Congrats on that. You know, one of my number one rules about trying to determine how long a task will take is "There's aways surprises", meaning things you can't foresee or take into account, so just add some time to account for these mystery unknowns. We always over-estimate what we can do in days but under-estimate what we can do in weeks or months, too. Sounds to me like you two are doing just fine! But I'd definitely offload work to VA's so you can get more done faster. Catch you around the forum.

Hello all,

I just discovered this forum today. The experience so far has be great. There is tremendous value here and I am only 3 posts in.

My background this mainly in sales and service. The traditional 9-5/60 years equation never made sense to me. I’ve always had an itch to create something bigger than myself. I’m finding out now that the biggest obstacle standing in my way was myself.

So here’s to growing in to a better person. A smarter operator. One that gets out of his own way.

Thanks for reading
-Speck

@Speck, welcome. Glad to have you. Do you have any current experience with internet marketing, whether that's PPC, SEO, whatever?

I’ve done a lot of dabbling. Wordpress, funnel building, email marketing and some paid methods of advertising.

I still have a lot to learn so I’m looking forward to reading through the forum, hopefully finding some nuggets.

Thank you for the welcome. You would think I'd have learnt by now that things always take longer than you expect, but no, I'm a slow learner.

Hi guys,

My name is Adrien. Very excited to join the forum, especially after reading MrMedia and tothemoon's case studies.

I am 29 years old and your typical digital marketer who has tried a lot of things (e.g. affiliate marketing, building Adsense sites, dropshipping, selling ebooks on Amazon, etc.) but hasn't hit one major home run yet. Your typical patient of shiny object syndrome.

This time I am building a food blog with a niche domain, aiming at hitting $5k-$10k in 12-15 months and selling it for $150k-$300k. I am hoping this will be my first major success.

I started in June and so far this is my expense:
  1. Domain: $1700
  2. Content: $2280
  3. Astra Pro: $47
  4. Amazon Images Plugin: $99
  • No. of articles so far: 71
  • No. of days since I start: exactly 30 days (I started on 20 Jun)

I intended to go for volume and publish 300-500 in 6 months. My investment budget is $25000.

Inspired by Iarcha's post, I will post a public, follow-along case study too as soon as I gain the permission.

Look forward to talking to all of you and my journey to $300k.

Some info about the domain I bought:

From Ahrefs:
  • UR: 12
  • DR: 19
  • Backlinks: 979
  • RD: 143
  • Organic Kws: 96
Top RD:

Welcome @Akrtw1, glad to have you. My journey was a lot like yours in that I had some successes early on and then floundered around (not with shiny object but with the allure of spam and PBNs). When I got back on course and stopped acting like this was really complicated and sophisticated, everything fell into place. Sounds like that's about where you are, circling back to where you started with SEO (based on your post in another thread). Nothing but good times ahead, even if those good times contain challenges!

Will definitely start my follow along case study as well.

Hey guys!
I'm new here. Just stumbled upon this forum while doing my research on how to improve the monetization of my blog.
Hope to find more answers and contribute on the topics I can.
Thank you very much!

Hey foxboy, welcome to BuilderSociety.

How long have you had your blog for, and how is it doing thus far? Are there any other areas you're looking to improve upon with your blog?

Hey, everyone!

I’m PulseOften and I just signed up for BuSo today. I found out about the forum through a reddit comment a few weeks ago, and it turns out there are interesting things to see if you sign up. So sign up I did.

So far, I like the nitty gritty stuff that I wasn’t getting info on in other forums. I’ll take a peep at the DSCC of course, as well as take some notes along the way.

Background:

My background is that I’m really just starting out. I’ve had a few projects already, but no great monetized successes. A failed affiliate blog from 2018 that had zero income, some forays into other passive income streams like microstock, as well as other experiments of releasing hobby-related content to see what people liked. For the hobby-related content, so far, it’s either dead silence, or people saying they like it or want more.

In the beginning of 2021, I let the IM ideas (Affiliate/Ads sites) simmer in my head for a few months again after I went on a self-improvement binge. I “restarted” (missing my projected start date by a week) after I finally got some time off and have been working on it 2-4 hours a day.

I’m loosely following these free resources for my site: a reddit case study (Phil), Morten videos, Jim and Ricky videos (IS).

Got the site up with 20 articles with about 30k words and just got some Google auto ads recently after completing the basic stuff like privacy policy. It's an info site and I don't plan on doing affiliate until maybe 50 info posts.

I hope I can contribute as much value here as I’ve already gained as a non-registered lurker so far. Thanks for reading!

Welcome, @PulseOften. Part of what makes BuSo great is that, while other sources try to give you everything you need to know (and fail at doing that because it's not really possible), here on the forum you can ask anything you want from specifics to generalities and get answers from professionals actually doing it successfully, and not just selling course subscriptions and info products. We don't spoon feed but any question asked that's not a time waster gets an answer. You can't beat that.

I hope all is well and that you find the success you're looking for through hard and smart working habits!

I've been a member for 5 years, and am finally getting around to posting an intro! I am the founder of an SEO/ORM agency, and a second web design agency. I've been more active on BHW and have moderated the ORM forum for a few years. If you're in the SEO world, we have probably connected at one point or another!

Happy to be here, I love the content heavy focus that many of you are working towards. I've been exploring AI for the last two months to see how I might be able to exploit AI content creation.

Welcome, @BHopkins, glad to have you aboard and finally posting rather than lurking. I've been pondering what the newer AI content creation stuff means for text-based websites. I think for a while it may be contained to stuff like financial newsletters and whatnot, but eventually it'll make it's way out to articles-at-large and that's going to mean a major shift for the internet (and huge monetization opportunities for brands that don't exploit AI content). Also, video content will benefit greatly from the barage of spam that is undoubtedly incoming.
